Skinny Living: Live in London 2016

Luckily, I have a little archive of blog posts stored away that haven’t been used so in a situation like today (having worked 12 hours and still having 4 hours to work) I am saved for my Monday upload! I wrote this post just over a year ago after seeing my favourite band, Skinny Living, on 25th October 2016. I’m seeing them again in 2 days time (which is something that has been keeping me going through the past weeks because I am literally sooooo excited) haha.

Anyway, here’s the post from last year:…

“Yes, I am writing about Skinny Living again. That is just because they are one of the few independent bands that I am super into at the moment.

So, I went to their show at the Lexington in London (about midway through their current tour). Doors opened around 7:45pm and I gunned straight for the front row (basically just next to the stage, in front of Ryan’s mic stand), where I remained for the next 3 hours or so. First, they had support from a great singer by the name of Nuuxs. Although she had a cold she was still able to sing so beautifully and my personal favourite of her songs was, ‘Cry’.

About half an hour after Nuuxs finished her set, Skinny Living came bouncing on to their new single, ‘Only I’. From here on in they rocked it. 1 or 2 songs in Ryan commented to me, “nice shirt” … cos I was wearing my Skinny Living top J

This was the second time that I had seen them (the first being just over a year ago at Freedom Fest in Hull). This time they incorporated a drum kit for Rhys, and both Will and Danny added in electric guitar accompaniments for some songs (at Freedom they rocked a full-on acoustic set). They definitely commanded a stage presence.

Post-gig, they hung out in the venue chatting and taking pics. After hearing that the girl who won their competition for free tickets to the gig wasn’t let in they decided to sing her a song outside. This was a very sweet moment. Unfortunately, the venue staff weren’t too happy about this and threatened to call the police on the band (and later didn’t let them back in to pack up their stuff). They played Storybook acoustically to her and took a pic with her. Then all of us fans who stuck around just hung out with the band; we did some more chatting and taking pics. It was an awesome night as a break from uni”

One year later and Skinny Living have gone from strength to strength, they have signed with RCA, supported Justin Bieber at his BST Hyde Park show and have significant increase in exposure with their new songs, ‘Why’ and ‘Fade’. I’m most excited about hearing their new, more electric sound though!

Please do check them out if you get a chance. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Peace out and expect a Blue Planet-themed post next week,

K x
